First Operation of its Kind for Canon in Lebanon: Seizure of «Canon» Counterfeit Goods in Lebanon and UAE

The main Lebanese Newspapers reported that the Lebanese Security Forces seized in Beirut a large quantity of Canon counterfeit goods (Toners and inkjets) that were manufactured illegally in Lebanon and were intended for distribution in the UAE and other Middle Eastern and African countries.

The Lebanese Security Forces also seized pre-press and printing materials that were used in the counterfeit operation. A similar operation occurred simultaneously in Dubai by the local police.

This raid which was conducted by the new IP&IT department, a specialized branch of the police department (Internal Security Forces), was one of a series of raids aiming to seize and confiscate fake goods related to the well known Canon trademarks in all the Lebanese territories.

Canon experts who attended specifically to oversee the details of the raid and ensure smoothness of the operation, praised the efforts, speed and efficiency of the Lebanese judiciary and authorities, as well as the high standards of professionalism of the head of IP&IT department, Cmdt Bitar who was present in person, and controlled an operation that's considered first of its kind for Canon in Lebanon, based on new and developed investigation techniques enabling the determination of fake Canon products.

Commenting on the event, Attorney Rany Sader, Canon's IP legal representative in Lebanon, claimed that this operation is one of a series of operations aspiring to combat this type of crime which affects Lebanon's image, and prohibits Lebanon from regaining its place as center of business in the Middle East.

Sader added that Canon will pursue all violators to their trademarks to end all counterfeit operations spreading in Lebanon and the region.

Sader applauded the efforts and promptness of the judiciary and General Prosecution department in fighting counterfeit. He also extolled the technical assistance provided by Canon to the police for the efficient implementation of the latter's job.
