Euro-Med Regional Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights

  A regional seminar on Intellectual Property Rights in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership was held in Brussels, from the 13th to the16th of November 2006.

  The seminar was managed by The European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA-ECR).

  Many IP experts from Europe and all MEDA countries (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Morocco, Egypt and others) assisted the Seminar which encouraged an exchange of experiences, knowledge and best practices of IP legislations and enforcement in Europe and the MEDA countries

  The seminar emphasized on the following topics:

  1- Future prospects in the field of intellectual property rights: copyrights and related rights and   Industrial Property protection in the European Union.

    General presentation of the current situation in Europe and the main topics on the agenda of Intellectual Property Rights.

  2- The enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights: Copyrights and related rights and Industrial Property Protection in Europe.

  3- A General Presentation of the current situation in Europe and the main topics on the European Agenda concerning:

    The Institutional Management, Internal Organization, Control and Surveillance Bodies in the MEDA countries. Collective Management.

  4- Regulation of the Intellectual Property Rights (Copyrights and Industrial Property Rights) in the MEDA countries.

    Legislative Protection, current obstacles and future perspectives.

  5- Procedures and Practical Cases in the MEDA countries.

  Lebanon was represented by Mr. Kamal Abi Merched (Head of the IP bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Trade), Mr. Antoine Richa (legal consultant of the Minister of Industry) and Mr. Rany Sader (as Legal Consultant of the Lebanese Intellectual Property Association)

  The Lebanese experts held many presentations among these 2 presentations by Mr. Rany Sader concerning the following:

  Collective management in Lebanon: Challenges and prospects (Private Sector Overview).

  Publishing in Lebanon: A Legal and Practical Overview).

  The well organized Seminar:

  Promoted a common Approach in the Euro-Mediterranean area towards Intellectual Property  Rights legislation and administrative practices in order to facilitate trade among the  Mediterranean Partners.

  Consolidated a network of expertise on Intellectual Property Rights among the Euro-Mediterranean Partners..

  Developed contacts between administrations in the Euro-Mediterranean area in the field of Intellectual Property Rights..
