Final Phase of the EuroMed Market Program on Copyrights and related Rights

The 4th and Final Phase of the EuroMed Market Regional program on Intellectual Property Rights (Copyrights and related rights in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership), which took place in Brussels - Belgium, on the 10 th and 11th of May 2007, helped familiarize the new legal acts and other initiatives adopted recently in the European Union about copyrights and the new legal initiatives adopted in the 10 MEDA Partners. The seminar also discussed the main issues related to copyrights in the knowledge society, Digital Rights Management (mainly counterfeiting) in the European Union, in addition to the present situation and future prospects on both aspects in the Mediterranean Partners. It also allowed to consolidate a network of expertise on copyrights and related rights among the Euro-Mediterranean Partners. |

At the end of the seminar, two major points were proposed: - Reinforcing bilateral and the intra-regional cooperation, which will enable authorities in charge of copyrights and related rights to enjoy a progressive institutional development. - Developing and ensuring intra-regional cooperation in the MEDA region until the actual establishment of the free trade area by year 2010 in order to promote trade among MEDA partners themselves. Our managing partner Mr. Rany Sader (Legal consultant of the Lebanese Intellectual Property Association) participated in this seminar as Lebanese IP Expert. He intervened with three presentations on: - IP Enforcement Strategies in Lebanon: Priorities that the IPR authorities have to set for themselves, the judicial aspects of IPR and the Proposals for future regional co-operation in the field of IPR in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. He also stressed on the importance of the establishment of IP Courts in Lebanon. - The Digital Right Management - The difficulties encountered concerning collective management in Lebanon: Concerned Lebanese Associations, Case Decisions related to collective management in Lebanon, Key Challenges for the Lebanese Private Sector and Future Prospects. - The difficulties encountered concerning collective management in Lebanon: Concerned Lebanese Associations, Case Decisions related to collective management in Lebanon, Key Challenges for the Lebanese Private Sector and Future Prospects. |
