The 5th Phase of the EuroMed Market Regional program on Intellectual Property Rights (Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership), took place in Seville-Spain, from May 5th till May 8th, within the context of the Euro-Mediterranean policy of the EU funded by the MEDA Program.
Based on the discussions carried out by the participants, the following recommendations were made:
|
|
1. Strengthen regional cooperation in the field of Intellectual Property Rights and
consolidate a network of expertise in this field, both virtual and real. The
former will be supported by the programme website and the latter could be
achieved by future face to face meetings.
2. Exchange experience, information and good practices between the South-
Mediterranean Partners in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.
3. Provide the necessary assistance to achieve the main objective of the
EuroMed Market Programme.
4. Provide all the legislation in force in each MP in order to identify differences
between the various legislations with a view to supporting legislative
approximation, which is one of the major objectives of the EuroMed Market
Programme, while also taking into account the legal system of each Partner.
The members of this working group commit themselves to supply this
information to the Programme Management Unit by 25 May 2008 at the
latest.
Furthermore, the participants took note of the specific objectives set for this fifth
phase and committed themselves to achieving them by keeping on working together,
among others through a number of functionalities of the Programme website of which
they were informed during the meeting. The general objective was to contribute to
drawing up a study on the situation of intellectual property rights in the Mediterranean
Partners, which would be presented at the end of 2008 on the occasion of the plenary
meeting of the working groups.
The participants took note that the EC support to the EuroMed Market Programme
will end at the end of its fifth phase, namely on the 31st of December 2008. They
committed themselves to respecting the above-mentioned recommendations after this
period.
The Lebanese delegation to this workshop was represented by Ms. Ghada Safar (Ministry of Economy and Trade) and Managing partner of SADER & ASSOCIATES Attorney Rany SADER (IP Expert).
