The ceremony took place at the Lorraine Opera House organized by the Universities of Nancy 2 and the Henry
Poincaré University in cooperation with the Lorraine National Technical Institute, in honor of Dean Sfeir
who was granted by Nancy University the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa, considered the highest distinction
in accordance with the University Statutes.
The President of the Nancy 2 University made the inaugural speech followed by a presentation
allocution from Dean of the Faculty of Law, Olivier Cachard, mentioning that ? by its size
and erudition, this monumental Treatise in Private International Law, published in 2005 by Sader
and Bruylant, is unique in the academic kaleidoscope of private international law. No one has up
till now dared to compare the rules of private international law of some fifty States to extricate
the core of a general theory? He concluded : ?In conferring the grade of Doctor Honoris Causa to
this French educated scholar of international repute, Nancy University is honored and makes of Khalil
Sfeir its prestigious ambassador?.
In turn, Dean Sfeir our senior partner thanked his hosts describing the phases of
launching the coordination process between the two universities: La Sagesse and Nancy 2.
Sfeir praised the existence of strong ties between Lebanon and France, in the different fields, emphasizing on the fact that his presence in Nancy
is much alike his presence in Lebanon among his family and friends.
In addition to Dean Sfeir, the University honored five prominent scholars and researchers from the U.S.A., Scotland,
Cameroon and Belgium constituting a wide educational variety having in common the will to devote their efforts towards
the efficient interaction of the cooperation mechanism.
The omnipresence of Lebanon by its flag and its national hymn has made the joy and pride of our
Doctor Honoris Causa !
