Under the patronage of his Excellency the Minister Mohammad Safadi, Minister of Economy & Trade, the American Business and Technology Academy (ABTA) in collaboration with the International Chamber of commerce in Lebanon, the Association of the Lebanese Industrialists and the Arab Organization for certified Public Accountants organized a seminar on the “Effects of Trade Marks Protection on Economic Development, under the Madrid Systems” on 29 and 30 April 2010 at the Abi Khalter Hall at the University Saint Joseph.
Many IP experts from different Arab countries participated in the seminar, among those: Dr. Mouwafak Al Yafi, Dr. Nada Nassar Chaoul, Dr. Hussam Lotfi, Mrs. Salwa Faour, Dr. Moustafa Abou Omar, Dr. Ahmad Mansour, Pr. Nassib Elia, Pr. Sami Mansour & others
Many topics were discussed during this seminar, such as the Culture of the Intellectual Property, its legal aspects in Lebanon & Egypt, its protection. 3 dimensional Trademarks, Well known Marks, and the Economic impact of the weak Intellectual Property Protection in Lebanon were also mentioned.
A very important presentation on the importance of IP audit was given by Dr. Mouwafak Al Yafi.
Rany SADER from SADER & Associates gave a presentation on “counterfeit and its impact on the Transactions”. SADER emphasized on the importance that Trademarks owners have to keep on protecting their Trademarks and fight any infringement that occurs through clear strategies. He also explained the different available strategies that multinationals and Trademark owners are adopting in their fight against counterfeit in Lebanon.
SADER shed light on the positive results actually achieved by the Lebanese Courts”. He terminated his intervention by explaining how counterfeit products are being smuggled into the Lebanese territory and its negative impact on its economy.
