The Beirut Bar Association organized a workshop on 'The New Challenges of
Intellectual Property' with the participation of various bodies involved in IP
issues in Lebanon and specialists from different countries. During this
workshop, attorney Rany Sader, legal advisor of the Lebanese Intellectual
Property Association (LIPA), lectured on the knowledge of the civil community,
alongside Judge Fadi Oneissi, as well as Ali Harakeh, and Kawkab Sinno
representatives of the private sector. This conference, held at the House of
Lawyers, was directed by George Ghandour who represented the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO).

Sader explained the main difficulties facing the IP sector and praised the
joint efforts of the judicial body and security forces in limiting the
infringement of IPR. Sader reiterated the efficient contribution of the
association in its efforts and activities with officials to preserve IPR. He
also stressed the importance of continuing the awareness campaigns, and take
over operations, in addition to the issuance of strict rulings to inhibit
violators. Sader announced a number of activities that the association
initiated for the protection of IPR, in order to position this sector on the
right track. He revealed the near launching of the association's website as
well as its quarterly electronic and paper newsletter, and spoke of activating
the efforts with all concerned parties in the public and private sectors.
