As part of the Beirut Franchise Forum and Exhibition (Bifex) held on the 27 and 28 of May 2010 at the Adnan Kassar Conference Center, a session on intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was held gathering many experts from different backgrounds.
Annabelle Harfouche (Ely Lilly) tackled IP from a pharmaceutical perspective. Fady Moubarak talked about its impact on IT.
Rany SADER emphasized the results cosmetic multinationals are achieving when adopting clear strategies in their fight against counterfeit. “Hitting mid-sized and small distributors can have serious impact on stopping the growth of distribution channels of counterfeit products, without which, import of counterfeit could not be liquidated” he said.
SADER also emphasized on the importance of the Lebanese Courts are given to IP cases and the positive results right owners are achieving and asked the judiciary “to be more tough in its decisions since some of the counterfeit products may put an end to people’s life: it is an economic cancer that threats a whole society, a serious crime”, he concluded.
